Manager, Business Development Technology Solutions

Our client is a privately held international management consultancy organisation delivering Political and Critical Risk, Development and Business Strategies to commercial, non-governmental and governmental organisations around the world. In early 2007 the company acquired a mid sized US defence contractor that specialises in intelligence and analysis, C4ISR and information systems, advanced technology deployment, and specialized shelter integration. The company is now in need of an ambitious Manager of Business Development Technology Solutions to manage and support the projected growth of its technology business in the Middle East and Africa regions.
Position Summary: Position is responsible for creating technical solutions and offerings for clients and is responsible for new opportunity qualification and capture management. The qualified candidate will have broad technical experience with a capacity to quickly understand the company’s technology and systems offerings, the spaces in which the company operates, the industry partnerships needed, and be able to translate client requirements into realistic solutions that the company can implement. The candidate may also be utilized as a program technical resource though his/her primary focus will be business development support activities. The candidate should have primary domain experience in: C4ISR systems (particularly as it applies to the critical infrastructure and defence communities with an emphasis on secure networks, information assurance (IA), decision support, and service-oriented-architecture (SOA). On a secondary level the candidate will also be experienced in data fusion/mining and advanced analytic systems (particularly as it applies within the intelligence and law enforcement communities with an emphasis on information management, knowledge discovery, MLS, and data visualization).
Specific Duties and Responsibilities: · Lead and participate in all business development initiatives for the capture of new technology and systems related business. · Build a pipeline of qualified new business opportunities. The ideal candidate will have an existing pipeline of opportunities they are already aware of. · Expand existing client relationships by introducing them to our technology and systems offerings, and supporting the sales and delivery process to implementation. · Assist in the all aspects of proposal writing and associated pricing exercises. · Lead the establishment of teaming relationships with the necessary industry partners that fill gaps in offerings and delivery capabilities. · Support the company's planning and reporting processes by maintaining pipeline information, client contact information, and reporting up for regularity scheduled meetings and planning deadlines. · Establish a training program whereby the SBU continually increases its level of knowledge and understanding in the technology and solutions marketplace. · Negotiation of contracts with customers, partners and vendors.
Required Qualifications and Experience: · Must have a bachelors degree in a technical field – advanced degree is preferred. · Must have at least 10 (ten) years of experience. · Oversight of major complex projects with technical project management experience involving project planning and budgeting. · Significant relevant technology sector experience in business development, sales and marketing with a clear track record demonstrating a strong sales ability to close business deals. · Experience working in dynamic, highly collegial and collaborative working relationships, requiring close consultation, matrix management, and coordination. · Experience working as part of a management team with responsibilities for working to budgets, managing HR / Legal and administration. · Strong track record in a high value contract management environment and position, ideally gained in a similar or related industry e.g. IT, defence, engineering and construction, etc. · Multi-disciplined so as to be able to understand the technical, contractual and financial requirements of the commercial management role and the necessary close liaison between them. · Successful project engineering track record managing the development of technology based products for commercial and military applications. · The role of Solutions Architect demands a team player with a high level of self motivation and excellent communication skills.
Language and Communication Skills · Fluent English speaking, reading, and writing proficiency are required. Competency in other regionally relevant languages such as Arabic or French would be beneficial. · Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Additional Skills · Must have strong analytical and management skills, as well as the ability to “multi-task” and prioritize on potential targets. · Must be knowledgeable of and able to effectively use word processing and data management systems and applications, including Microsoft Windows, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, sales based software and e-mail applications.
Other · Preferably will have worked with major defense, systems integrations firms.
